Historically Black Colleges and Universities
        Historically Black Colleges and Universities

The field of religious and theological studies aims to help people understand the role religion plays in different civilizations and cultures, whether across the world or just the next state over. A great place to study these issues is at one of the historically black universities and colleges (HBCUs) in the United States.

Historically black colleges and universities developed mostly after the Civil War in response to the need for specific educational opportunities for blacks in the US. These institutions were a key part of the struggle for independence, respect and freedom, and they are still around today. Now open to all applicants, HBCUs remain committed to a superior quality education in an environment that also fosters personal growth, confidence and the belief in the power of education to change lives. An undergraduate education in religious and theological studies at one of the over 100 HBCUs across the nation means you get a quality education grounded in values of diversity, leadership, and service.

So if you want to study in a context rich in history and positive values, consider applying to one of the historically black colleges and universities with religious and theological studies programs!
