Career colleges with religious and theological studies programs have been part of US post-secondary education since the mid-19th century. These are private institutions offering short professional and technical programs (usually 1 to 2 years) that train students for direct entry into a career. In this respect, colleges and seminaries that specialize in preparing students for a career in Christian ministry can be considered a kind of "career college " Although, "vocational school" would be more accurate, since they train students planning to enter full-time Christian vocation. In addition, there are some Christian colleges that offer professional career training (in areas such as nursing).
Despite their long history and important role in building up society, many students still overlook these schools when it comes to their postsecondary education. However, with small classes, personal mentorship, and unique internship and field work opportunities, these career colleges have much to offer that larger institutions can't provide. So if you're considering a career or vocation that involves religious and theological studies, don't just look at the big universities: smaller colleges often have innovative programs that can not just prepare your future, but change your life!
